The Spirit of St. Louis is the custom-built, single-engine monoplane flown solo by Charles Lindbergh in 1927 on the first nonstop flight from New York to Paris. Built by Ryan Airlines, it had a 46-foot wingspan, no front windshield, and relied on a periscope for forward vision. Its 3,600-mile flight made Lindbergh an international hero and marked a major milestone in aviation history.
